The Most Effective Acid Reflux Remedy Is Prevention Acid reflux is not a disease but it has become one of the most common preventable medical conditions in today’s society. This condition mostly results from modern unhealthy lifestyles people are living and the inappropriate diet they have. Demanding careers have also made it impossible for most people to eat healthy meals. Takeout joints and fast food have become common fare to the majority of the population and for the most part the foods are acidic. To function properly you should consume a diet that consists of 75% fruits and veggies which are alkaline and only 25% meat and grains which are acidic. The body needs balance or your health will suffer. If you continue to eat an acidic diet you will eventually put your body into an unhealthy acidic state. If your body becomes acidic you will experience burping, belching, flatulence more than normal, and your stomach may become bloated. Stomach bloating is the result of increased pressure and this increase in pressure will force the LES valve open and allow the acid reflux to occur. Although there are other conditions which contribute to stomach bloating the most common cause is being overly acidic. Checking your pH levels will tell you if your body is acidic, and if you are, then you need to correct your pH levels to eliminate the condition. Did you know that when acidic stomach gases reflux they can effect your larynx causing hoarseness, or coughing, and the same gases can even aspirate into your lungs causing asthma-like symptoms? Many doctors prescribe various drugs to patients suffering from reflux but this is not the answer because the drugs are only masking symptoms. Although most of these drugs have side effects, no one really knows the long term effects these drugs can have on your body. The proton pump inhibitors (PPI's) prescribed by the medical community inhibit the secretion of stomach acid which is essential in killing harmful microorganisms in the digestive pathway, but they also stop your body from absorbing much needed calcium from your food. The body needs calcium to function properly or it will leach the calcium from your bones and teeth.
